Kitten Curl & 2013 Notes

Beancurl

This is Princess Bean.  Her full name is actually Princess Beanems.  The ‘ems’ was suggested by my wife to remember Eric Michael Stephens, a friend who killed himself a few years ago.  We adopted 2 kittens soon after that.  Bean is a treasure.  A fussy treasure.  She tucks us in each night.  In the morning she always wants her belly rubbed.  Good luck trimming her nails without anaesthetic for you both.

Can it really be March of 2013?  When will time slow down?  Did the world end but I didn’t notice?

Bean’s sister Yodette just jumped into my lap.  Perhaps I can use the cats not only as an inspiration but as an excuse.  Earlier I was about to write a post for another blog I do and our third (and oldest/biggest) cat hopped into my lap.  Since I am apparently primarily a cat servant and secondarily a human with other goals, I stopped writing.  I found I could delete spam with one hand without disturbing the kitty, so I got caught up on my 1000 e-mails from being out of town for 4 days.

Hyperthermia

Hooray, new motivation! I’m helping a friend study for his emergency medicine certification. While it would be great to visit him in Canada, he is a visual learner and I can help him from Oregon by drawing some cartoons to assist his studying. Here’s the first one, showing the risk factors for hyperthermia.

External Qi Ting Power

This cartoon is from a blog post at my main site.

I’m looking for research which may prove the existence of an external healing energy (such as External Qi Healing) and was disappointed to find a US based study on External Qi Healing for Knee Osteoarthritis which allowed the energy healers to do intense acupressure massage on the knee before beaming energy at it.  The abstract for the study didn’t mention the direct massage at all.  One healer, who did less massage, did no better than placebo.  The other, who did more intense massage, had results a little better than placebo.  The author concluded that the results were inconclusive and that he needed more money for a bigger study.

No intelligent life would live here!

According to the evolutionary record, dolphins and whales had legs at one point, showing that they walked on land.  Then they went back to the ocean, and they turned back into full-time swimmers.  Sometimes it seems to me that is evidence of their superior intelligence.  Near weightlessness and fresh seafood for every meal seems like a good life!
